"Across the Columbia" 2021
The end of April brought artists all over Southern Washington together to present over 160 works of art from Oil and Acrylic to 3D Multimedia Sculptures.
Having not painted most of my adult life, there were not too many opportunities sought out to attend art shows. I had managed to be a spectator in a few but had never participated. This year though, having finally graduated college in 2020 and having space and time to resume being creative, I had a few paintings that I felt comfortable showing the public.
"Mount Saint Helens No. 1", "Upper Lewis River Falls", and "Across the Columbia" were shown April 27th-April 30th 2022 during the SWA's Spring Show, and you know what? I didn't have a panic attack (although I was having a full blown tree nut allergic reaction and was hopped up on Benadryl and attempting not to go projectile all over everyone else's art).
"Across the Columbia" managed to receive 1st Prize in Oil and Acrylic for the show which honestly blew me away. As an artist new to the show scene and acutely insecure about my paintings (I have no shame in admitting this), it was hard to wrap my mind around the fact that the blue ribbon had, in fact, been placed in the vicinity of my artwork intentionally. An additional bonus was I forgot how nauseous I was and was able to stay vertical and non-projectile for an additional hour thanks to adrenalin.
It was incredible to see such amazing art at the show and to be judged against other fantastic pieces. I feel so incredibly honored to be able to show alongside such incredible artists. I look forward to attending more local shows and to support other local artists. Please attend a future show if you get the chance and don't hesitate to say hi!
Proof that there was a blue ribbon.
My surprised face.
